Re: Tyres

I had a set of Yokohama ht tyres on the Jeep and they had to replace a couple under warranty. Sidewalls got cut badly on the slightest sign of rocky road so I would stay away. Michelin LTX AT2 are the best tyres I have ever had, did about 10k by now. Will never look at any other tyre anymore. Make sure you get LT rated tyres, not P. Had a great run with anything from Michelin on passenger cars in the past.
I have written about my mates experience with Coopers sometime before. He was told to let the pressure down if he wants grip. I guess he learned the expensive way. Another guy lost the car when one de-laminated at full speed and ripped a hole in the fire wall. Lucky he still has both legs. Cooper was sued by the insurance co. to pay for the car.
LT tyre pressure should increase by 2 PSI from cold after driving as speed on road for half an hour or so. More, pressure too low. Less, too high. Off road, anything that works as your speed will be slower.
Cheers

Just took the plunge on 6 x nitto trail grappler in 265/75R16. $285 each fitted and balanced... Couldn't argue with that price really. Will report in after fitting and the desert crossing.

Tyres are on

Heavy tyre, know about it lifting them onto the roof... About 6kg additional weight over the old wrangler adventures.

But of noise at 90km but nothing the radio won't drown out.

Also has a weird vibration just as you stop... Literally the last 2cm of travel.

See how they go offroad next

They look the goods.

I bit the bullet and went for a set of the Falken At3w's. Just couldn't argue at 260 per tyre. Hopefully they go well.

Yup they are the Trail Grappler MT in 265/75R16 LT

Aired them down to 25 for the Brindabella mountains and the forest tracks.
They seemed to spread well as you deflated, sand all be the biggie as they are an aggressive tread.
