Transmission issue?

Postby Wazza » Wed Jan 09, 2019 12:05 pm

Hi Team

2011 Pathfinder ST-L Auto 98000kms. Factory standard. Always serviced by Nissan, most recent was 2 months ago. No issues to date, other than some wheel alignment fun and games :)

Over the last month or so I have noticed that the Auto is not changing like it was - mostly at lower speeds - this is causing a LOT of vibration back through the floor directly under the shifter (so that's gearbox I would deduce).

So the behavior is that it seems not to change down as it used to at lower speeds - for example 50 - 80 - and it is akin to driving a manual car in high gear at low speed i.e. vibrations occur due to this.

If I move the shifter over to manual shifting - this isn't an issue, obviously because I can change at the right revs.

What am I looking at here? Do I need a transmission service? Is it potentially more serious? Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Wazza,
I have been very happy with BGA at Coorparoo 3847 2633. Nissan service does not include auto, as far as they know it's for life. I have oil change done every 50K on all my auto s. If you towing it's a must. Also make sure the radiator has not been bypassed as I mentioned in one of my other posts. Some cowboys do that as it generates more work.

Jack of all, why is that Toymaz. Currently back to design drafting (my original qualifications) but done sales, construction projects and run an IT business for 10+ years. Always happy to listen to interesting offers. You can email me on my user name @optusnet.com.au.
I do most of my car maintenance as I travel solo, including Simpson in a Jeep.

No, I do not work for any of the shops I have recommend. Just don't want people spending money with ones that should not exist.

Cheers

Just curious thats all.
I have been in and around the automotive industry for 25 yrs including a lotof modified vehicles.
I have some different opinions to some of yours that's all.
Each to their own, but i wouldn't do anything that would cause an issue with my vehicle.

Works for me, but I did not start driving in this country or on the wrong side if the road :)
Lifts and bull bars do nothing for me, I like suspension travel and light weight. Try not to drive at night because of the wildlife but killed a roo during the day. Got lucky, it stuck it's neck under the wheels. Not a scratch on the car.

Personally my vehicle is better with a bit more height and bullbar. I live semu rural....i hate roos. Better being below rather than on the bonnet. D40/R51 don't have the high stance that a lot of similar year models do.

Cheers DerekD... haven't had a chance to take it into BGA yet - will try for this week. It's an interesting issue - I can't work out whether the vibration through the gearbox, only at certain revs and under 'load' for want of a better word.... is caused by a gearbox issue or something else...

Hopefully they can diagnose. I have never towed with it - but bought it at 53k (98k now) and the guy before me did tow motor cross bikes. Can't say if the oil has ever been changed.

Nissan just told me there isn't anything they can do except change the oil.... why would they care right?!

Hi Wazza
This vibration you speak of, there is a common one on 140kw models. It is about 1,800- 2,000rpm under slight load, more noticeable up hills.
