Broken rear door cable

Postby Bruce » Fri Apr 06, 2018 10:06 am

Hi. I recently replaced both my rear door handles but unfortunately during the replacement, one of the cables broke. What happened was the white plastic end housing that clips into the door latch has split so that it no longer holds in place. I tried using a cable tie to keep it in position but only lasted a few uses before falling out.
What I need is a new cable yet I have not been able to find one online. Does anyone know a supplier for these. I may have to resort to wreckers, or creating something with 3D printing.

Glens 4x4 wrecking in queanbeyan has a R51 at the moment. I took a look at it on Sat to see if they had any bits i could use on mine. The RH Rear outside door handle was gone but the cable was still there. Inner cable and mechanism was still all there. Pretty sure the LH side was all intact.

Thanks mate. I only just saw this so I hope it's still there. I'll take a look tomorrow.

Cheers.

It's still there. The cable is there but he wouldn't separate it from the latch assembly which was priced at $145 so I passed.
I got myself a new fuse box cover though :)

I bought my 2008 ST-L from dealer and one rear door wasnt opening from outside (same issue) and he ended up having to buy a whole new assembly and got a auto locksmith to come to my place to fit it. Assembly alone was $500 so $145 for second hand is OK.

$145 might be better than $500 but for a tiny broken piece of plastic is more than I was prepared to pay. So I ended up fixing it with an arrangement of cable ties something like what was done in this post http://pcoa.org.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=6577&p=82663&hilit=rear+door+cable+tie#p82663
works a treat!
