Suspension Upgrade

Postby JordanV » Sat Feb 10, 2018 11:00 am

Hi All,

Recently purchased an R51 ST-L as an intro to the 4x4 world and am loving it.

We are looking at a suspension upgrade prior to heading off on our first trips and was wondering what people are running.

I am looking at a 2inch lift with constant load and not sure which way to go brand wise. Have received quotes for Tough Dog and Iron man systems and they both come in around the 2k mark. An OME kit through ARB is about $2300 and am waiting to hear back from Dobinsons.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Cool thanks, I was leaning towards them, seem to be a good product without an exorbitant outlay.

I must check them out, they seem popular on heaps of 4x4's these days.
2007 R51 Iron man Bullbar and lots of plans, but not so much cash.

I would steer clear of the tough dog adjustable shocks. They are prone to failure. Never used Ironman but dobinson are good quality. Not sure but pretty sure you can get bilsteins for pathfinder. Radflows are good also. You get what you pay for though except ARB. They are just expensive.

Had OME Nitrocharger sport 2" lift kit on mine with medium springs plus airbags in the back also. Could not fault the setup

I got a quote from ARB for the OME setup the other day, they only give a 30mm lift though.
Had OME on my old Hilux and they were great so I may go that route.
I have Bilsteins with King springs on my R50, magic on road and pretty good offroad but a tad harsh on corrugations, not as "plush" as the OME was on the hilux.
I want my R51 to be a little more offroad orientated.

I have ironman kit in mine constant load springs with foam cell shocks and struts, wasn't happy with how front was sitting a bit low.
They ended up putting in the foam cell pro's in the front which are adjustable so they wound them up to give me the lift I was after.
No issues at all and happy with the ride on and off road
$1200 all up including a wheel alignment
